LEED Gold Certified
Providing general contracting services, Structure Tone built Covanta’s new headquarters in four distinct phases:
- 5,500sf Tier II data center
- 110,000sf of general office space fit-out
- fitness center and associated locker rooms
- conference center and cafeteria expansion
The energy-from-waste company sought LEED Silver certification for the new fourth floor offices, however through diligent construction practices they achieved Gold. Sorted onsite, 95% of the construction waste was recycled; low VOC products were utilized and materials were procured locally. Materials were repurposed and reused within the design including a recycled plank-clad wall and suspended panels made out of a recycled material, which separates the cafeteria.
The 5,500sf data center was constructed first. It consists of five rows of cabinets with the space to add an additional two rows. In addition to the main data center room, the space also consists of a build room, UPS room with 120kVA units, storage room and telecom room. Covanta wanted their telecommunications equipment to be located in their data center so that it could run off the generators if there is a power failure and not be dependant on the building’s back-up power system.
There is a total of 75-tons of AC provided. To save on AC cost over time, the space has the ability to be cooled with outside air.
