Hygge and Skov

Novo Nordisk, a Denmark-based pharmaceutical company, decided to expand its North American headquarters to a new 167,000sf location, incorporating its unique cultural and corporate heritage. Working collectively with the architects, Structure Tone was able to create a space that captured the essence of Hygge and Skov (the presence and enjoyment of things that are soothing and woodlands), while simultaneously accommodating the modern business needs of the global company. The building is comprised of five floors of approximately 33,000sf each. The office features the calming minimalist and nature-inspired influences in different ways:

  • patterns of branches appear throughout the five floors
  • light fixtures with faux wood shades hang throughout and illuminate a mixture of earth tones and vibrant colors
  • natural wood is used liberally throughout the space
  • wireless technology to take advantage of common areas
  • white noise, one for the open space and another for private offices to block outside noises

LEED Certified

Environmental stewardship is a core value for Novo Nordisk and the project was constructed to LEED Silver certification standards. Sustainable strategies include:

  • daylight harvesting
  • recycling of construction waste
  • use of sustainable materials
  • regional materials
  • low VOC materials
  • green power and low-flow technology in the kitchen, break rooms and restrooms
